A: No experience is required, we offer low cost lessons to anyone wishing to learn the game from scratch.

  • Q: What specialist equipment is required?

A: The minimum ‘specialist’ equipment required is a set of Bowls (ranging from £40 second hand to £150 new) and Bowls Shoes (£15 - £50). All your clothing can be as cheap or as expensive as you like (as long as it is the correct colour !)

  • Q: Do I need my own 'Jack'?

A: The club provides all the equipment needed to play a match: jack, mats, scorecards, scoreboards, etc. Other equipment you are advised to have is a measure and some chalk.

  • Q: Can I just turn up and play?

A: Yes - as long as it is within club opening times and there are free rinks to play on. As a member you can play for FREE for as long as the rink is empty.

  • Q:I don’t know all the rules , will this stop me playing?

A: No – The basic rules are easily picked up and the more you play the more you will learn. Normally there is always an experienced player down the club you can ask if in doubt.

A: Yes – Spectators are always welcome

A: Approximately from the beginning of April till the middle of October

A: Firstly, if you do not have waterproof’s you will get wet ! and yes we do play in light rain. Play is normally only stopped for heavy showers to avoid the green getting damaged.

A: The members do. Green maintenance, cleaning, general repairs, etc is all performed by the club members (usually by rota basis)

  • Q: Do I have to play Club matches?

A:  No - We have a large friendly fixture list during the year plus the local friendly leagues with neighbouring clubs but no one is forced to play in these games. If you do not put yourself forward you will not be pressured into playing.

  • Q: How long does a game last?

A:  As a rough guide a normal ‘team’ game which would be 4 players per team playing 21 ends would last approx 2 ½ hours.
